![]() It elegantly upgrades the genre and brings it to the current generation of games in full glory without being completely derivative. However, ST is not just a simple indie game which wants to parasite on our nostalgia for some old school titles. Not only that - in my case it also reminded me that specific feeling of games from the beginning of the 21th century. If you used to play and love titles like Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood and Commandos series, you should feel right at home. Shadow Tactics is obvious successor to a forgotten genre which includes no more than ~ 8 games. I hope no one will feel offended if I just paste it here ![]() Good to see someone did it for me :) However, I wrote a Steam-review. I was about to post something and encourage people to buy it, but time passed and somehow I forgot about it. I've finished this game few weeks ago too. Also, the loading times are somewhat long, including 'quick'loads. And when they're being looked at by another guard who also doesn't leave his post, the fun begins. Things that could be better, later in the game increasingly more guards show up that don't leave their post even if you try to lure them out and I often get stuck on them because your options are very limited: shoot or stab. If you feel you're not challenged enough by the objectives alone, each level has about 10 challenges to complete, ranging from 'don't kill anyone' to 'don't use a specific character' to 'kill the target in a more spectacular way', etc. The story is a somewhat standard Five-man band tale. The difficulty curve is quite well made in the sense that playing through the game normally I didn't really notice the game getting progressively harder but looking back at early levels I'm surprised at how relatively simple they were (though, it should be said, the final level is quite obnoxiously hard). It makes you feel a lot more in control of a situation until some bastard guard you forgot about sees one of your characters' butts and sounds the alarm. Shadow mode, allowing you to easily set up simultaneous actions for your team, is a great addition to the old genre. That is, of course, not to say that finding those solutions is easy. The level design is top-notch and almost every problem has more than one solution. When comparing this game to commandos, I think shadow tactics wins at everything. Shadow tactics is a game made in the style of Commandos where you lead a group of up to five assassins against impossible odds where your primary tools are stealth, distraction, and the quicksave key. I recently finished this game after I bought it a couple months back.
